Try calling the convention centre customer service department at 619.525.5000. They may know of some deals given to people attending functions there. Here is the page of their website listing hotels within a few blocks of their location. http://www.visitsandiego.com/attendees/hotels_downtown.cfm. Good luck!!

You can actually do a city-wide quote, and sort the results by distance from the convention center.

Head over to http://www.resideo.com/us/california/sandiego/ and click the 'enter your travel dates' link. Choose your dates, submit the form. When the results appear, select the convention center from the points-of-interest dropdown.

You can then check out each hotel, view pics & book online.

Closest available for your dates is a Marriott: http://www.resideo.com/us/california/sandiego/73897055.hotel

The cheapest/closest is a Comfort Inn:

There are no cheap hotels very close to the convention center but if you don't mind a short trolley ride you can find them all over. Just check to see how far they are from the trolley.
