What month is the weather to cold to go to the beach in San Diego?
What time of year is the weather a little to uncomfortable to go to the beach in a swimsuit and swim/lay out in San Diego?
The water is cold the year round because it is a northern current.
As far as lying on the beach, The winter months as well as May and June are not the best. "May Grey" and "June Gloom" are caused by a local weather condition where the hot desert air sucks in the marine layer off the ocean and creates coastal fog and clouds. This dissipates as the ocean water warms in late June / July.
From July through October the weather is pretty much the same, late night and early morning clouds which burn off at the beach mid morning, leaving sunny skies.
September and October are the best weather months. Be aware that Santa Anna conditions (high pressure forces hot wind off the desert) can occcur any time of the year, sending the temperatures into the 90s.

Winter. during dec to march you wont see much people swimming in the ocean. The only problem is SD has a weird wheather one day is sunny the next day is raining during dec to march.

January 17 the weather is too cold to lay out. Unfortunately, we have an arctic current so the water is cold for most of the year, bring a wet suit.

december, january, and february the water gets pretty cold, but i would recommend bringing a wet suit all year round, as the water comes from arctic currents and is usually very cool.

That depends on how "tough" you are.
Generally speaking, the water is almost always cool or cold. When people say that the water is warm, what they really mean is that it’s not cold. It’s never warm in San Diego ocean.
For me, I stop playing in the water in October. Definitely very few people in the water in Nov through Feb. Though, you can always take shoes off and walk along shore with water up to your ankles – that’s doable.
