My son (11yo) and myself are looking for a San Diego area beach to hang out and skimboard and possibly boogieboard while the wife subathes and reads. Were coming over from Phoenix. Basically whats the best beach to hang out at late July that will be the less crowded and good for skimboarding? Were amateurs so big waves aren’t a must. I don’t want a beach where surfers own the wave every 10 feet. Also beaches that are sandy and not rocky. Our main goal is the beach so shops and luxery means nothing. Thanks

Coronado might be packed, but that is because it is one of the best beaches in the country.

I have never been to San Diego, this weekend will be my very first trip down there to check out my future university. I will be transferring there soon. What are the nice cities to live in around San Diego State University and which should be avoided?
What are the people like there? the campus?
And how far is SDSU from the beach?
I am European, and I just want to know where I would fit in more?
If it makes any difference, I am a Journalism and Media Major.
Thank you.

San Diego is beautiful! The people are very relaxed and friendly. The students tend to go into the party side a little bit more than all the other universities in San Diego but as long as you keep priorities you’ll do fine balancing it all. The campus itself is very big and also tends to get a little bit confusing on the first few days, don’t doubt to ask another student where somewhere is. I have been there for 4 years and sometimes I’ll forget about the more obscure parts of campus. There is Wi-Fi on pretty much every area, there is also a 24 hour study area in the library and we have plenty of hangout/eat places.

I am thinking you will come with no car of your own and probably will not rent/buy one while in here so I recommend living closer to campus or close to public transportation. Most students tend to live in the College Area, Mission Valley, North Park, and Pacific Beach neighborhoods. The last two are a little bit harder as far as transportation because they are a bit further. Most of college area apartments for students are within walking/biking/skateboarding distance from state but you can also ask on the phone (most landlords/roommates will know). The school offers a discounted semester bus/trolley pass for 135 I believe so you could use that or if you live close enough, invest in a skateboard/bike (a lot of students use them).

As far as avoiding areas of San Diego well there is no for sure area I would avoid since every neighborhood has a lot of good and some bad side including the ones I mentioned but I know some people avoid living anywhere in downtown SD and south from there not only because of traffic jams but also because there is protests in chicano park or the traffic from downtown and the Mexican border and the beaches down there are not as clean as Pacific Beach, Ocean Beach or Coronado Beach so the commute is longer for a good wave.

SDSU itself is about 10-15 mins by car from the beach, I would say if you take public transit or there is traffic as it is common on the I-8 during certain times then about 30 mins. Since you are European, SDSU also has a very good International Student center where people from abroad socialize with people who are interested in going abroad/have been abroad/interested in countries abroad. Since you like media and journalism, there is also organizations on campus like the Daily Aztec (official newspaper), the Koala (satirical, undergroundish newspaper) or Aztec Radio, etc plus all the clubs. If you like partying, lots of clubs that SDSU students go to happen to be in North Park and Pacific Beach area.

I am currently studying abroad in Spain but I hope it all helps and you really have fun on campus. I really love being a student there. Don’t hesitate to ask me anything else :)

I got a speeding ticket + going on the bike line a little to get off the 94 freeway. My fine is $397 and my court date is May 18. How do I extend the day? My excuse is because I have class in the morning and afternoon. Also what is the maximum time I can extend it? And if I plead not guilty can I still go to traffic school? I am hoping that the officer doesn’t show up.
By the way, this is my first ticket.

Your citation should have the county court listed where you need to call. You can request an extension but that doesn’t always mean you will get it. Since this is your first ticket, you may be ok.

3. What is the deadline to go to traffic school in California?

Your traffic citation will be extended for 90 days to allow attendance and completion of the traffic school and dismissal of the citation.
