I need to book a room in San Diego, but the person I'm traveling with is a smoker, and it seems like every hotel there says 100% non-smoking! Does anyone know off-hand ones that allow it…even just on the property? Thanks a lot!

Most hotels do allow smoking in certain rooms, but they do not advertise it. They do not want people knowing they allow smoking in some rooms because less people will come. The best thing to do is call a hotel. Most of the cheaper hotels will be more likely to allow smoking.

College applications are approaching, and I'm thinking if I should even apply to colleges I don't have a chance of getting into. I come from a high school that's quite competitive, and it's pretty hard to get into honors/ap classes. My sat score is relatively low. Do colleges specifically look at your weighted or unweighted gpa?

weighted: 3.85
unweighted: 3.65
sat I: 1720

3 community college courses

extra-curricular – golf, peer leader, homeroom officer, CSF (California scholarship federation) officer, student govt and 4 other clubs, after school tutor
Volunteer jobs: library, hospital & day cares

Had an internship over the summer

Thanks.

The UC system compars both your unqeighted and your weighted GPA's, though they place the emphasis on your weighted GPA. You should take the SAT again, in hopes that you can improve by a hundred points or so. You have great EC's, and you have demonstrated that you are a hard worker. A lot of volunteering, which you have, helps tremendously. You should be a shoe-in for Irvine, Davis, and San Diego, but UCLA is a stretch. If I were you, I would apply to all those schools, because you should get in to at least three of the schools in which you are applying to. I can guarantee you this much: you will be getting into any UC you apply to, with the exception of Berkeley and UCLA, even though you still have a chance.

How many hours do you spend at the San Diego zoo when you go for a day? I was thinking of going at 10, and probably be done around 3? Does 5 hours sound about right?
I'm in good shape, and it's just my boyfriend and I. Thanks for all the answers!
I'm a California resident, I live an hour away from the zoo. It's kind of a date too, not to be biased towards certain animals but of course I'll be interested in seeing the lions, tigers and bears, etc. instead of hogs… We're only doing the zoo, not the Wild Animal Park.

It really depends on how much you want to see. If you want to see everything you can do it in about that amount of time, but it's gonna be a bit rushed. Last time I went was there from 10 until closing time. But then again we walked everywhere, got lost for about 20 minutes. and ate. But in 5 hours you can do it. It'll be fun.

I am looking up a phone number but I cannot find out the city it is in. It is a San Diego number, area code 619. The prefix is 262. Any help would be appreciated. This information is VERY important to me.

It's in southeast San Diego, zip codes 92102 and 92114.

I live in San Diego and want to go to New Port Beach on the coaster. Will it take me that far? Where do I get off and on? How long does it take?

It looks like the coaster only goes as far as Oceanside:

Have you considered the train as an alternative? Amtrak travels from San Diego to a few Orange County stations for around $20 each way.

My husband and I are planning a trip San Diego and Los Angeles in December. Can you recommend a book that would give us some good information about places to go, places to see, how to get tickets to shows, tours to take etc.
Thanks for your help.

See if you can find a book on the area(s) by a company called Frommer's. They usually release guides for all the BIG cities and popular tourist destinations at least on an annual basis.

Come take a look at some of the most beautiful beaches and coastline along Del Mar in North San Diego. This stetch of beach and coastline is at the south end of Del Mar along the historic Pacific Coast Highway just north of La Jolla. It is also the home to the San Diego Coaster train which runs from downtown San Diego all the way up the California coast. Del Mar is an upscale community which is well known for the Del Mar Racetrack and Del Mar Fair in addition to great pockets of beaches and coastal parks. For Del Mar hotels and vacation rentals with disocunt hotel room rates visit www.socalbeachmag.net website or call the San Diego reservation center at (800) 679-7707
